Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic therapy in which we use hypnosis.
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind, a state of deep concentration.
A good definition of therapeutic hypnosis would be a; profound state of relaxation and concentration brought about by suggestion. The word hypnosis is derived from the Greek word Hypnos, meaning sleep. This is slightly misleading because hypnosis is an altered state of awareness that will allow the therapist to bypass the conscious mind in order to access the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy helps by tackling the root of the problem and by making positive changes to the subconscious mind.
The subconscious mind contains our belief system, learned information and responses. The therapist will make positive suggestions to the subconscious for the benefit of the client’s wellbeing. While in hypnosis you will experience a certain level of trance, you will feel deeply relaxed and at ease. The conscious mind is free to wander and drift while the subconscious mind receives the positive behaviour suggestions beneficial to the individual needs. The hypnotic state or trance state is a perfectly natural state.
